Ambassador Alvarez complains about NYPD's sabotage of Chavez' visit to Harlem
VHeadline.com News Editor Patrick J. O'Donoghue writes: Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) US subsidiary, Citgo president Felix Rodriguez has confirmed that more than 300 indigenous communities in the US will receive cheap heating-oil this winter.
Rodriguez says this is possible because of the recovery of Venezuela's national oil industry and because in the past many people did not know that Citgo belonged to Venezuela.
- The Citgo president made the announcement at the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Harlem, New York, during a visit of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias to African-American leaders and community organizations.
Venezuelan Communications & Information (Minci) Minister, Willian Lara has accused US secret service agents of sabotaging President Chavez Frias' visit to the Mount Olive Church.
Lara says the police tried to stop President Chavez Frias from speaking to journalists after he left the Church.
The Minister also complains about an electricity cut during the session, saying it was a retaliation on the part of President Bush against Chavez Frias' controversial speech at the United Nations a day earlier.
According to Minister Lara, a NYPD spokesperson demanded that President Chavez Frias stop his speech, because no permission had been granted for the public event.
The Minister retorts that the activity planned in Harlem complied with all the legal norms of New York City
Venezuelan Ambassador to the US, Bernardo Alvarez says he will make a formal complaint to the police for cutting off electricity and the satellite broadcast to Venezuelan State VTV channel.
The Ambassador later issued a statement, denying that the US State Department Secret Service had anything to do with the sabotage.
In fact, Alvarez has praised the professional work undertaken by the US Secret Service covering the Venezuelan President's visit.
