Venezuelan Chambers of Industry & Commerce (Fedecamaras) president Jose Luis Betancourt has called on the Venezuelan government to comply with law and order in the intervention of industrial private property after what happened to Polar Beer Company silos in Barinas and the Heinz Baked Beans processing unit in Monagas.

“The government should abide by the law and clarify the situation … Fedecamaras is prepared to collaborate with companies that have closed down because we want to open up more firms, we want more employment and we want respect for private property and economic freedoms.”

Fedecamaras rejects the government’s action in the Polar and Heinz cases, insisting that such decisions must be validated by a clear court sentence and followed by just compensation.

“Using violence in these cases does not help either side and what is important is to create more jobs.”
